Simandou vs New Yorker: addendum
Yesterday we brought you a further update on the imbroglio in Guinea around iron ore deposit Simandou, involving Rio Tinto, Vale and Benny Steinmetz’s BSG resources. Why this again? Well - because it caught the attention of no less august a publication than the New Yorker. We found this unusual and exciting and urged you to check it out. Naturally that still stands.
However - a further update: eagle-eyed reader Matt Mosman (@mamossman) then got in touch via Twitter to point out that the New Yorker has been on this issue for longer than that. He took us gently by the hand and turned us in the direction of this link to what he described as “wonderful longform” from the same writer published last July.
He’s right, of course - it’s excellent writing. And it predates CSR21 by a good five months - or at least that’s our excuse for failing to pick up on it.
Have a good read via the link above. And thanks, Matt.
