Worsening security in Nigeria

Friday, 11 October, 2013

A punchy article by Dr Jonathan Hill, Senior Lecturer at the Defence Studies Department of King’s College London, on African Arguments. Dr Hill makes the case that "Nigeria is now a failed state... beyond question. Whether it can avoided breaking apart remains to be seen."

Some might argue that this is an extreme take. But as the atrocities by Boko Haram continue and state counter-terrorism seems increasingly ineffectual, and in the wake of the recent Guardian piece on oil theft, it's impossible not to be concerned while skimming the news that the country's risk profile for business is becoming one of its most serious impediments to development.
